Tales of rivalry and friendship between two families, one from Southern Italy and one from Milan, who own two restaurants on the same square in Milan. Venice Film Fest to honor Vittorio Gassman ROME -- The Venice Film Festival said Wednesday it would honor iconic Italian actor Vittorio Gassman with a special tribute on the tenth anniversary of his death. The tribute, which has been rumored in the Italian press for weeks, will get underway with the Sept. 1 world premiere screening of the documentary "Vittorio racconta Gassman" ("Vittorio tells about Gassman"), based on footage of the actor speaking about his career. That date would have been Gassman's 88th birthday. "The film dispels many of the stereotypes about my father," said Alessandro Gassman, a well-known Italian actor in his own right. The younger Gassman helped make the film, which was produced by Giancarlo Scarchilli.

The cartoon tells a story set in Palermo in the 1950s, in the form of a fairy tale for children. The protagonists—two boys who fight to free their neighborhood from the presence of an evil wizard who steals people's souls and turns them into "pupi"—are named Giovanni and Paolo, in homage to Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, who were indeed young friends in Palermo during those years.

When the silent cinema learned to speak, the audience was surprised not only by the voices of the actors and the sound effects, but also by a new element, the music, which, combined with the dance and an unprejudiced imagination, gave rise to a new genre, as important to Hollywood cinema as the western was: the musical. Tre McCree and his brother have their friend document their lives as they move from Texas to Hollywood to become big stars together. On their way there, they pick up a hitchhiker who happens to be a witch.

Series based on the short French farces written by Georges Feydeau, Eugène Labiche, Marc Michel and Sacha Guitry. All of them include mistaken identities and impeccable timing.
